Sports Translation

While sport may not be a matter of life and death, it’s certainly a lot more than a game. 

As a passionate sports fan, I understand that a good sports translation is about more than just getting the message across. Fans expect people writing about their favourite sport to be at least as knowledgeable about it as they are, and they can be incredibly unforgiving critics. Every sport has its own specialist terminology, and fans expect you to know how to use it. Getting it wrong can make your message less credible, even if you know your chosen sport backwards.

I have been following a wide variety of sports on a daily basis since I was old enough to read, and have a particular passion for football (soccer) and motorsports. My introduction to European football was watching Fabio Capello’s iteration of il grande Milan in the early 90s, and my passion grew from there to encompass competitions all over the world.

As for motorsport, to paraphrase Radio Le Mans, if it has wheels and an engine, and they keep score, I will be watching it. I haven’t missed a Grand Prix since Hungary 1989 and watch Formula E, endurance racing and junior single-seaters on a regular basis, among other categories.
